SUGGESTED PROCEDURE
- Draw a grid of the targeted area and map out the location of the ceiling beams keeping in mind the following: location of the ceiling joists, obstructions (electrical, air vents/returns etc.) and aesthetics.
- Transfer the grid to the ceiling using a chalk line to mark the center of the beam.
- Take final measurements for the ceiling beam length along the chalk line.
- Mark the layout of the ceiling cleats every 36” to 48” and pre-drill the holes for the lag screws.
- Secure 2x4 cleats to the ceiling along the chalk line.
- Where ceiling joists are not accessible, attach the cleats to the ceiling using toggle bolts… do not over tighten to the point that the drywall cracks and becomes compromised.
- Cut your ceiling beams to length.
- Mount the ceiling beams to the cleats by countersinking finish screws into each side.
- Apply wood glue to the supplied wood plugs and insert to conceal the screws; flush cut to the beam when dry.
- For a finished look, caulk or install moulding where the ceiling beam adjoins the ceiling to conceal any anomalies in the drywall from construction.
