Our box beams come unfinished and are sold in 8' lengths. This allows you to readily assemble the beams to any custom length. To order, simply add up the linear footage of your design and round up to a multiple of 8... its that easy! Assembly is facilitated with our unique lock-miter joinery that allows for quick and precise alignment. All wood beams come unassembled, unfinished (ready to paint or stain) and are easily installed without specialized labor or equipment. Custom sizes and designs are available upon request.

These 3-sided ceiling beams are nearly indistinguishable from solid timber. An added benefit to the box beam design is the dramatic reduction in product weight allowing for easier handling and more versatile installation locations. The hollow box design provides a means of hiding unsightly beams, pipes, conduit and wiring.

Manufacturing
Wood is a natural material. As such, seasonal growth patterns and environmental conditions contribute to the uniqueness of the grain and color in each piece of lumber cut from a tree. These conditions also add the swirls, burls, mineral streaking, fine pinholes, pitch pockets and color streaks that you find in the wood of all fine millwork, cabinetry and furniture. As the wood is milled and finished, all of these features combine to give your Hickory beam special character and a deep, rich patina.

This Hickory beam is constructed from carefully selected quality hardwoods. Solid wood parts may be comprised of a single board or multiple edge-glued boards. While pride is taken in matching boards for uniform color and grain pattern, variations are part of the natural beauty of hardwood, and not the result of the manufacturing of the Hickory wood beam. We encourage you to enjoy the natural beauty of solid wood and appreciate those characteristics that give it personality.

Handling
Wood swells and shrinks as it moves between areas of high moisture to areas of low moisture; the only remedy is time. Upon receiving your order, remove the Hickory beam from the packaging for inspection. DO NOT REMOVE THE STRAPS UNTIL READY TO INSTALL THE PRODUCT. Allow your Hickory beam to condition to the environment of the installation venue a week prior to commencing. It is imperative that you do not allow the components to have direct contact with the ground (including cement) or become wet.

Product Specifications This Vintage Wood Beam 4 x 4" x 96", Hickory is manufactured using solid Hickory wood. Due to the box design, this Hickory wood beam is relatively lightweight (averaging 24 lbs.) and easily manageable for a two-man installation. This decorative beam is intended for Interior use. Hardwood beams are offered in standard sizes and intended to be cut down to size to obtain the exact height or length required. For extended runs, our beams are designed to be assembled to any length. Simply stager the joints between the side boards and the runner board. Consult our product options for accessorial straps. Assembly Our Vintage Wood Beam 4 x 4" x 96", Hickory has a unique lock-miter joinery that saves time and labor costs. Generally, one Vintage Wood Beam 4 x 4" x 96", Hickory may be assembled in 15 - 30 minutes. Lock-miters are precisely and easily assembled without much effort. They can only be assembled one way and yield tight joints with nearly perfect 90-degree angles. To join each side of the Vintage Wood Beam 4 x 4" x 96", Hickory, simply apply glue to the joint, clamp tightly and pin nail randomly to hold the Hickory pieces together while the adhesive cures. We recommend the use of painters tape along the edge of each side to facilitate the removal of excess glue. Use a combination-square to check right angles for accuracy, making corrections where necessary. Structural Support Requirements Our decorative Vintage Wood Beam 4 x 4" x 96", Hickory is non-structural and requires an existing support beam or ceiling joist for hanging or fastening. The Hickory beam wrap is designed to install around or hang from a previously installed structural beam or ceiling joist. Cutting and Fastening Vintage Wood Beam 4 x 4" x 96", Hickory is easily cut with conventional carpentry and woodworking tools; for a fine finish, we recommend the use of trim-finish carpentry tools. Small pneumatic finish nailers and staplers can be used to fasten the Hickory beam wraps to cleats or a structural support beam. Coarse thread screws and brad nails are also suitable as fasteners; be sure to pre-drill pilot holes and countersink them.
