Poplar Wainscoting Paneling Kits

Poplar Wainscoting Paneling Kits

An inexpensive utility hardwood, Poplar is our paint-grade lumber used in the construction of wainscoting. Not so fast you say? Experienced carpenters know that poplar can be stained to mimic cherry, walnut or birch at a fraction of the cost. If using a light to medium stain, opt for maple wainscoting instead.

Although listed as a paint-grade material, our Poplar wainscoting is solid; we do not use finger-jointed engineered boards. The majority of poplar wainscoting has a white to yellowish cast with occasional green, dark purple or grey streaks. The only reason that it is not advertised as a stain-grade wood is because we do not sort for color. Consequently, dark stains are necessary to ensure a homogeneous appearance to the finished wainscoting.

When choosing the lumber for your wainscoting project, consider these key points about Poplar:

  • least expensive
  • ideal for painting
  • straight grain with medium texture
  • may be stained a dark, opaque color to mimic cherry, walnut or birch.

If you have existing woodwork that is difficult to match, consider painting your wainscoting. Painted wainscoting juxtaposed with elegant hardwood flooring and furniture looks great.

Do you want to see a wood texture through the paint? Consider painting our oak wainscoting. Contact AICMillworks.com with your specifications today for a free quote on your wainscoting project. Remember that we custom size to your specifications.
